What is a Tincture?
A tincture is a concentrated liquid extract of an herb. Herbal tinctures are regarded as the cornerstone of medicine due to their healing effectiveness and efficiency dating back to use by the Ancient Egyptians in 3,000 BCE. For thousands of years, Native American peoples have used herbs to heal the body, purify the spirit, and bring balance into their lives. By the 1800’s, tinctures were common in European medicine. However, the term “tincture” wasn’t coined until the 19th century when physician and scientist, Carl Warburg, created a tincture remedy to treat fevers.
Herbal tinctures are used for treating a wide range of mental and physical health issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, indigestion, osteoarthritis, insomnia, and the common cold.
Tinctures are extremely convenient and easy to use, as they are taken orally either straight or in teas. The preferred method is often taking the tincture straight (2-3 drops directly under your tongue by dropper), as this allows the tincture to enter your bloodstream faster and can produce quick results. For those that do not like drinking tea, don’t have the time to brew a cup, or are looking for fast results, straight tinctures are perfect. Less than a minute and you are done!
Of course, the time it takes to see results varies depending on the herb. While some herbs have immediate effects, others may take weeks of continual use before the results are noticeable.
Our tinctures are brewed using high quality, 100% organic herbs and ingredients (yes, even seeped for 3 months in organic alcohol).
Sacred Journey Apothecary currently offers three herbal tinctures including Mood Boost, Anxiety Relief and Natural Pain Relief. PMS formula and Elderberry Syrup are coming soon!
